SOME CAGE BIRD MANAGEMENT TIPS FOR FINCHES SUCH AS CANARIES

Usually two broods are produced annually, from May to August. In captivity, it is not advisable to leave the female to a third brood, as it is exposed to more intense fatigue, and this just before moulting, stressful ordeal for birds. The female lays four to six pale blue eggs, finely marked with pale pink and lilac, average size of 16 * 12mm, the female incubates alone from 10 to 12 days while the male feeds the nest.

In captivity, some females begin hatching the first egg, the other from the third egg. From that time, special attention will be paid to the behavior of the male, some have a bad tendency to bite or destroy the nest egg. If this is the case, we must separate the male from the female (place it in a cage-competition within the aviary where the female, or if the couple is housed in a battery, to a separation fence so that the female is the 2 / 3 of the battery if possible). The female will take care of raising young only if it is separated from her mate. In the case of a farm without problems, after hatching, the female feed the young one, while the male feeds the female to the nest. To the 6th-7th day, the young can be ringed. To the 10th-11th days after birth, the female does more warm her young, and the male begins to feed them directly. The young leave the nest to the 12th-15th days and will be fed by parents until about the 30th day.

Female Reproduction in Canaries

It is a robust bird, which bears very harsh climates. He has a good life if they live in good conditions. With a sharp eye, he spotted the insects quickly and efficiently.

He has many qualities and has a melodious and pleasant, without missing a colorful plumage. This is an acrobat who does not take up one second, it is lively and has a rapid flight. It moves to the ground by small jumps, it usually travels short distances. They live in groups, except during the mating season when he needs space and shows quite territorial.

In an aviary it easily coexists with other species, it lives at home with no problem with canaries, small exotic finches and bullfinches. I have never seen aggression between them.

Should be offered different kinds of nests in hidden, but must remain accessible to the farmer for the observation and monitoring of the nest during incubation and after.

To ease the coupling, we must develop the battery or the aviary with branches or plants to be closer to more natural habitat. Care should be taken to provide a diet high in animal protein and vitamins to encourage reproduction. During breeding, provide for an insectivore mash mixed with an egg mash, and ensure an intake of animal protein, ant eggs, pinkies, mealworms and buffalo.
